Melissa Sakamoto
Since childhood, Melissa Sakamoto has been influenced by the artistic integrity, dedication and craftsmanship of her family business, Melissa International Inc., in creating one of a kind, couture fine jewelry for customers around the world. Raised within an artistic family culture, Melissa has always loved bringing ideas to life through early interests in ceramics, photography, and drawings.
Pursuing anthropology and architecture through college and ultimately earning a Master`s Degree in Art Management from New York University, Melissa began a journey of building the basis for her free-form, organic shapes - utilizing rare cut stones and unseen textures that have become her signature works for customers in Tokyo and New York.
Melissa began designing works and arranging special exhibitions for her father’s collections from 2004 to 2014, while learning the trade of jewelry-making under her father, Koichiro Sakamoto a master of fine jewelry creation for over 50 years. The discipline and challenges of working within a family atelier simultaneously instills pride in the personal care and deep attention to details of each of her customers’ wishes who love to seek works that cannot be made by anyone else. Each diamond is carefully selected in Antwerp each year, to create special orders according to customers’ requests. The same process is taken with other precious stones such as aquamarines that are mined in Brazil and sent to Germany to be cut in precise angles and forms.
Melissa currently travels regularly to New York, Paris, London and Hong Kong to meet with individual customers who seek her latest creations to add to their collections, many of whom have already transcended into third generation collectors of Melissa’s family’s works.

サンフランシスコ生まれ，聖心インターナショナルを経てニューヨーク大学大学院卒。
メトロポリタン美術館宝飾品部から2004年父の主宰する高輪台坂本浩一郎アトリエに参加。2014年ＮＹにてマリサNY.を設立 現在ニューヨークにて制作活動中。
